Here are 5 basic female body shapes and the dress styles that will enhance your looks for an even better-looking silhouette.
1. Apple body type
If you have an apple body shape, most of your weight concentration is above the hips, with little to undefined waistline.
To help take attention away from your mid-section, focus on flaunting your best assets – usually the bust and legs. A-line, wrap styles and empire cuts are ideal waist cinching options to slim your silhouette.
Opt for belted styles, wide and low necklines, loose and flared sleeves and full skirts. Off-the shoulder and shorter lengths which bare skin can draw the eye so show them off when you have a chance. Avoid figurehugging dresses at all costs.
2. Pear body type
The pear-shaped body is focused on the lower region of your body. Your bottom, hips and thighs are visually larger compared to your upper body.
The key to dressing this body shape is to create the illusion of volume on the upper body while defining the waist.
The best styles include A-line, bias cut, asymmetrical and drape with focus on the top half of the dress. Dresses with wide and scooped neckline, ruched or ruffled details will add interest to the top of the body.
Structured shoulders can widen the shoulder line and a fitted bodice can accentuate the waist. Think puff sleeves and flutter sleeves.
3. Hourglass body type
This body type is the most balanced, with a proportionate top and bottom and a well- defined waistline. With a well-balanced figure, dresses should follow the outline of your curves.
