Before…
Before starting Let’s Talk Slow, I studied Fashion and Brading. After graduation, I worked for a sustainable womenswear brand in The Netherlands where I learned a lot about sustainability and sustainable production. My friends were always saying that it was very easy for me to buy sustainable Fashion, but of course that is not true. You just need to know where to find sustainable items. Then I came up with Let’s Talk Slow to show people that it is possible to have a fair wardrobe, you just need to know where to look and what to look and look out for.
Stephanie has recently issued an Ebook “Slow it down”
My Ebook ‘Slow It Down’ is all about creating a conscious and sustainable wardrobe; How to do this, lots of tips and tricks, what to look for and inspiration from other girls as well. It’s a full guide that shows how you can change your consumer behaviour and what to look for whilst shopping sustainably. I’ve heard that it is still very inspiring for people that are into sustainable fashion already.
Q: How did you get where you are today?
A lot of hard work and determination. My biggest motivation is that there is change needed in the fashion industry as it is one of the most polluting industries.
I could not have done this all without the help of my boyfriend. He loves taking pictures and he supports me in everything I do. He really is the best fiancé I could wish for.
Q: What would be your advice to someone who wants to start living consciously?
You don’t need to do it all at once. Small steps are perfectly fine. It’s all about making decisions consciously. Think about the things you want to buy, if you really need it and if it adds something to your life.
Q: Which clothes are your wardrobe essentials?
I think it’s actually very personal. For one person it might be a well-fitted jeans for someone else it might be a black dress. I think the most important thing is that you create small collections within your wardrobe that fit well together, so that you have more options.
Q: Have ever experienced wearing bespoke clothes? What do you feel when wearing a garment made especially for you?
Yes, I have a bag that is made especially for me and it feels so good. It truly fits my style and I think that it super important when we’re talking about sustainable fashion; making sure that the lifecycle is as long as possible. With items made for you, they have extra value for you and you will probably keep the items longer too.
